Loaves & Fishes needs volunteers to feed the needy

The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio Road in Charlottesville is hosting a Children’s Reading Hour, every Wednesday morning, from 11 to noon, through August 20th. The Kluge-Ruhe Collection presents Gurari – Saltwater Drinker

The Kluge-Ruhe Collection presents Gurari – Saltwater Drinker, an exhibition of works by Melbourne-based artist Ricardo Idagi, the Collection’s third resident artist. The exhibition, which runs through December 21st, brings together nine of Idagi’s sculptural works that serve as visual memoirs of Mer (Murray Island), his home in the Torres Strait. Made with a variety of materials, from raffia and feathers to beer cans and wrought iron, the works comment on political and social issues facing Torres Strait Islanders today…

Wildlife Photo Contest for Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary

The Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary is holding its first annual Wildlife Photo Contest throughout the month of September. All local photographers are invited to enter photos of Virginia wildlife and landscapes in person at The Great Frame Up, 1860 Rio Hill Center, Charlottesville, anytime during the month.  A small entry fee is required.  All entries will be professionally judged to select the finalists, and those will be posted to Facebook the week of October 27th.
