Loaves & Fishes needs volunteers to feed the needy

Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, a non-profit that gives groceries to over 1,200 low-income families per month, is in need of volunteers to assist with bagging groceries and distributing food.  No experience is necessary.  Join in the mission of Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors and help the less fortunate in our community.  To volunteer or for more information, email volunteers@cvilleloavesandfishes.org or call 434-996-7868.

The Kluge-Ruhe Collection presents Gurari – Saltwater Drinker

The Kluge-Ruhe Collection presents Gurari – Saltwater Drinker, an exhibition of works by Melbourne-based artist Ricardo Idagi, the Collection’s third resident artist. The exhibition, which runs through December 21st, brings together nine of Idagi’s sculptural works that serve as visual memoirs of Mer (Murray Island), his home in the Torres Strait. Made with a variety of materials, from raffia and feathers to beer cans and wrought iron, the works comment on political and social issues facing Torres Strait Islanders today…

Meals on Wheels needs drivers! Drivers typically drive one route a week at lunch time, delivering meals to neighbors in need. Photo IDs required to vote

Are you photo ID ready to vote November 4th? When you go to the polls to vote this year, you must show a valid photo ID issued by an employer, a Virginia school, the military, or any governmental agency. Your photo ID cannot have expired more than one year before the election. Photos are issued free by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the city or county registrar. Be photo ID ready and vote.

Virginia Film Festival: Indigenous Filmmakers

Donate a Tree to City’s Holiday Celebration

The City of Charlottesville is asking for the donation of a large tree for “Grand Illumination,” the city’s annual holiday celebration. The tree should be an evergreen, approximately 25 feet tall, and be accessible for removal by city staff. The resident who donates the selected tree will be recognized at the tree lighting.
