Archived “Radio Freedonia” with Bob Nastanovich available till Dec 26

Indie rock legend Bob Nastanovich stopped by WTJU’s long-running rock show “Radio Freedonia” on Friday December 12th. The charter member of Pavement and Silver Jews is UVa Class of 1989 and was, unsurprisingly, a WTJU DJ. When Bob got to the station he immediately began rifling through the vinyl in the library, spinning some fave platters (Unwound, Scratch Acid, etc). In between sets, he regaled Poubelle and Helvidius and WTJU listeners with tales of Charlottesville and WTJU yore. It was a gas.

You can listen to the whole show here until Dec 26th when it’ll be retired from our public archives.

  • Charles Villiers Stanford Piano Trio 2, Piano Quartet 1

To my ears, Stanford’s music has always sounded like Brahms with an Irish accent. That’s not a bad thing. Like Brahms, Stanford constructed his music within accepted classical frameworks. But within those frameworks he crafts his motifs and harmonies with a great deal of imagination. Which is what makes this new Naxos release a pleasure […]
